027. How do you reboot after holidays?
Every issue of Moment comes with a question designed to gently nudge you towards working well: making your mental health part of your self-employed business plan.
027. How do you reboot after holidays?
If you’ve had a block of time off during the summer period, can be hard to get back to up to speed and feel into the swing of things, especially if you’re working from home, and there’s not much of tangible difference between where you’ve been resting and where you now need to start working.
Whilst it can be tempting to just ‘push on through’ and hope that you’ll just get back into the mindset - sometimes our brains need a physiological and psychological jumpstart to get things running, else we end up feeling sluggish at best, or giving ourselves a really hard time about not being productive enough.
We might also need to reduce the expectations we put upon ourselves in those first few days after a break - what we could get done in a full day before the break might not be the same today, either we’re playing catchup, our energy levels and focus has changed, or simply, we’re moving into a different stage of the year where things are just different now.
Using the return to work as a moment to observe what is different now, what has changed, what we have on our plate, and what we want to get done between today and the next break, has multiple positive benefits.
So, instead of sitting and staring blankly at the screen on your first day back after a holiday break, use this Moment to ask yourself, what techniques can you use to reboot yourself back into work?
